Most people wouldn’t consider putting a king size bed in a small bedroom, but sometimes you have to. You may be moving to a smaller house or simply need a larger bed for a good night’s sleep. Fortunately, there are ways to make a king size bed work in a small bedroom. Read on to find out!
When styling a small bedroom, you’re best off deciding where to place big furniture first. This usually means items like tallboys and bookcases. Placing bigger furniture first helps you create the basic layout of the room. Once there’s a clear furniture arrangement, it’s easier to introduce smaller items like bedside tables.
Maximising space is important for any small room. One way to do this in a bedroom is by positioning the bed under or against a window. Remove the headboard to preserve views and natural light. To create the illusion of more space, install a curtain rod that stretches the entire width of the bed. Once you apply the curtains, your bed will be framed in a way that draws the eye upward. This gives the impression of a more open room.
Floor space is going to be scarce when you put a king size bed in a small room. Using the walls is a great way to free up much-needed space. One way of doing this is by using sconces; installing light fixtures on walls reduces clutter not only around your bed, but also on bedside tables.
Shelving can maximise space too. Shelves are fantastic for both storage and decoration. Invest in free hanging wall shelves that can be placed all the way up to the ceiling. If you paint them the same colour as the walls, the room will seem more spacious. Go the extra mile with custom-made shelves.
White is an excellent choice of colour for a small bedroom. It brightens up dark corners and makes the room feel more airy. However, too much white can make your bedroom feel cold and sterile. Counteract this effect by accessorising with the right combination of colours. A soft, light colour palette that uses pastels or light greys will help, as will shades of blue and green. Cool hues will make your bedroom look bigger, while warmer hues will have the opposite effect. You can also accent with pillows in different patterns and textures to add more colours to the room.
Having a king size bed in a small bedroom doesn’t have to cramp your style. If you follow these tips and add your own creative flair, you’ll be surprised how well a large bed can work in limited space. Need furniture to complement your king size bed?
